Roots and WingsRaíces y Alas

In the intimate silence of my being, memories flow. The scent of ripe mango, fresh lemongrass and orange blossom awakens in me a symphony of sensations that lay sleeping, softly, in some corner of the soul. Painting became my way of listening to myself, of understanding, of honoring.

My parents taught me that beauty is diversity, patience and roots. What matters most lies in the simple, the intimate, the heart of the family. I carry in my blood an old mix of Corsican and Spanish ancestry, but my heart blossomed on the most beautiful island in the Caribbean: the Dominican Republic.

Fate, generous, joined me with a renowned architect with a deep love for art and culture. At his side, I discovered a new way of looking at the world. He already brought with him the love of a son, and together we built a home where life blossomed with two more children, and in them I saw my passions reborn, multiplied. Today, my branches have reached new generations, my granddaughters.

Every human being carries a story inside that deserves to be told, and I am honored to tell those stories without words. My technique of impressionist pointillism in watercolor is not just a style: it is an act of patience, of devotion. Each dot is a breath, a necessary silence, a conversation with the invisible that invites you to look closely, to pause, not to run from the details. With every stroke, I hope to open a door to empathy, to connection. Sometimes a single painting is enough for two souls to recognize each other without ever exchanging a word.

Thank you for coming closer to my universe. If any of my works touches your soul, it was all worth it.

Angelín, the one who paints with her soul.

I met her when she was just a girl, with big, curious eyes full of the kind of innocence you fear life will erase over the years. She always had a shy smile and an energy that seemed to come from a secret spring. That was Ángela Vera, or as I have affectionately called her ever since: Angelín.

Read moreShow less

I watched her grow. I watched her stumble through life, learn from cloudy days and from early mornings full of dreams. And what moves me most is that everything she lived, the joys and the wounds, the embraces and the absences, slowly turned into color, into water and into light. Because that is what Angelín does: she paints with her soul.

Her watercolors are not simple splashes of color. They are little pieces of her story, drops of her tenderness, reflections of her clear gaze. In each one there is a hidden emotion, a sigh that escapes from the paper, a conversation between water and the heart. There are artists who seek perfection, but Angelín seeks the truth. And that is why her art moves you.

Sometimes I think her brush does not paint, but caresses. That each of her strokes is a caress to the world, an attempt to make it more habitable, more human, more beautiful. In one of her watercolors I saw a sky so serene that it reminded me of the peace you feel when you manage to forgive. In another, a bouquet of flowers that seemed freshly cut from the garden of childhood. And in all of them, a delicacy that can only come from someone who has learned to look at life with gratitude.

I remember when she showed me her first works. She brought them shyly, almost asking permission to show them. But behind that modesty there was a secret strength: the certainty of someone who has found her voice. Today I look at her evolution with pride, and it moves me to think that the curious girl has become a woman who creates beauty out of silence, who knows how to listen to what the water tells her before it settles on the paper.

Sometimes I watch her work and I seem to see an angel in motion, perhaps that is why life wanted her name to hold wings. Because Angelín does not paint only what she sees: she paints what she feels, what she imagines, what she dreams. And in this world where so many people rush by without looking, her work invites us to stop, to breathe, to remember that beauty still exists in simple things.

Thank you, Angelín, for giving us your colors, for reminding us that art is an act of love. That a little water, a little pigment and a lot of heart are enough to turn the everyday into a miracle. I am glad to have witnessed your path, your doubts and your certainties, your first strokes and this luminous present.

Keep painting, my friend. As long as you keep dipping your soul into your watercolors, the world will be a little more beautiful and a little more human.

My dear Angela, Danielle gave me your painting of the black rooster a few days ago and I wanted to thank you very much. It is painted with a modernist touch and looks very realistic.

For the Chinese, the rooster (ji, pronounced ti) has existed since 1400 B.C. and is considered “joyful and auspicious.” It is an important animal in astrology and necromancy. It is a symbol of YANG (warmth and life). The first to wake, it chases away the evil spirits of the night with its crow. The Chinese call it “the divine bird of the five virtues”: its crest expresses the literary spirit, its spurs mark it as a brave fighter (cockfights have existed in China for 500 years!), it is attentive to its family and trustworthy in announcing the hour every morning, and even floods. The Chinese use eggs for divination. They protect themselves from epidemics by hanging a rooster on the door. At weddings, two small sugar rooster statues were placed on the ancestors’ altar... I could tell you many more things about this rooster, which will bring me luck thanks to you, and I thank you again.

I also loved the card (in pointillist style) of my two cats. In fact, one is gray and the other white and gray.

Thank you for everything, Michel

In this series, I immerse myself in memories of my childhood and the dance that made me feel alive. The dancers unfolding in each piece are more than figures; they represent the joy, freedom and expression I felt when I danced with my sisters and friends in the gallery of my home.

My home was a refuge of art and music, where creativity and passion were the common language. Classical music, literature and ballet were part of our daily life, and my sisters and I grew up surrounded by the beauty and grace of these arts. These works are a tribute to those magical moments, when music and dance came together to create a world of dreams and fantasy.

For these works the technique was watercolor and gouache, and the style of all three is impressionist with romantic influences.

The style is impressionist, focused on capturing light and color. Loose brushstrokes and blended colors create a sense of movement and energy in the work.

The phrase “Sisters under the same sky” suggests a connection between the three female figures in the painting. The absence of defined faces can be read as a representation of universality and equality among women, beyond their individual features.

This watercolor captures the magical essence of the beach house in the Dominican Republic, where I found inspiration in the serenity of the surroundings. The female figure in a red swimsuit floats serenely in crystal-clear water, surrounded by a natural setting where the sea is transparent and the rocks and shells reveal their unpredictable beauty in color.

The vibrant palette and the light dancing on the water create a dreamlike atmosphere, while the figure seems to have merged with her surroundings, conveying a sense of peace and harmony with nature.

This work depicts the siblings in a serene beach scene at sunset, evoking togetherness and nostalgia through memory.

Each figure is rendered in a simple, stylized form, creating a rhythmic pattern that contrasts with the softer, impressionist background. The sea stretches before them in soft blues and whites, suggesting gentle waves meeting the horizon. Above, the sky shifts between muted purples, oranges and grays, evoking a quiet sunset or sunrise, with delicately scattered clouds that deepen the sense of space.

The technique balances abstraction and representation, using dots and stippling in the foreground to suggest the texture of the pebbles, while the figures and sky rely on broader, softer strokes to convey atmosphere and simplicity.
